The Palmetto State is most well-known for its long and beautiful coastline, subtropical climate and Southern charm. While the capital, Columbia, is centrally located, and the largest metro area, Greenville, is located inland to the northwest, most visitors to the state frequent coastal destinations like Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
Charleston is the largest city in South Carolina and perhaps it’s most popular. The city is famed for its rich colonial history, cobblestone streets, well-preserved buildings and hospitable residents. Favorite Charleston attractions include the Battery promenade, Waterfront Park, South Carolina Aquarium, Patriot’s Point and Fort Sumter.
On the northern end of South Carolina’s coast lies Myrtle Beach a gorgeous resort town with so much to see and do. Since it is the hub of a 60-mile-long stretch of beach known as “The Grand Strand,” perhaps the most popular activity is enjoying the sunshine, sand and water. Aside from the beach itself, attractions include The Carolina Opry, Ripley’s Aquarium, Broadway at the Beach, Broadway Grand Prix and Family Kingdom Amusement Park.
